STUDENT ORIENTATION PROGRAM
The purpose of a university’s orientation program is to acquaint new students with established and existing practices of the institution they have come to join and be part of it. The truth is that, any person who goes to a new place for the first time, does not see things the way natives or indigenous people see them. To the newcomer many things may look illustrious when they actually are not. Yet first impressions are important because they may become lasting impressions. It is not right then to allow newcomers to St John’s University of Tanzania to nurture wrong images of St John’s when they would be told in a special welcome program at the beginning of their stay here. The orientation program makes the foundation of behaviour for the long run when a student lives here in St John’s as one community; students are shaped according to rules and regulations. It is the tool to make a student cope with the environment, studies and personal behaviour, as it is well known that St John’s is a Christian University.
