The Faculty was launched in July 2007 following the demand from and consultation with different stakeholders both within and outside Tanzania.

VISION: Within the framework set by its Trustees as a Christian university, and while recognising and respecting the religious pluralism and cultural diversity of its students and staff, FAHE seeks to develop students with both a capacity to integrate a Christian perspective within their programme, and a commitment to apply what they learn at St John’s university of Tanzania to the service and transformation of the material, social, spiritual and moral life of the local, national and global community.

MISSION: The ways in which teaching, learning and research take place in FAHE should reflect and inform the principles of the subject itself. Attention is given to the ways in which students develop:

  • Knowledge and understanding.
  • Application of key principles to related contexts.
  • The ability to reflect on relevant issues.
  • Transferable skills.

FAHE graduates are expected to display the following characteristics:

  • Improve their own learning and performance, including the development of study and research skills, and a capacity to plan and manage learning, and to reflect on their own learning.
  • Analyse, synthesise, evaluate, and identify problems and solutions.
  • Identify and reflect on potential connections and discontinuities between each
    of the aspects of subject knowledge and their application in different contexts.
  • Accommodate new principles and understandings.
  • Select a range of relevant primary and secondary sources, including theoretical and research-based evidence, to extend their knowledge and understanding.
  • Demonstrate civic responsibility, leadership and service.

The following cross cutting courses are offered to all students in the Faculty

  • Development Studies
  • Computing Courses

The programs of the faculty are designed to meet current and future job requirements in both teaching institutions and non-teaching institutions and organisations.

  • Students will be able to meet the following at the end of the program:
  • To teach in tertiary institutions and in secondary schools
  • To work as education administrators or officers
  • To work in educational research and consultancy activities.

Direct Entry Qualification
Advance Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (ACSEE):
At least two principal passes for HGL, HGE and HGK students (they must have pursued History, Geography, Kiswahili and English in Ordinary Level) or its equivalent in Geography and History

Certificate of Secondary Education Examination (CSEE) or its equivalent:
Passes in five approved subjects, including History, Geography, Kiswahili or English, obtained prior to the sitting for ACSEE.
Equivalent Qualification
An appropriate equivalent Diploma from a recognised and accredited Institution with an average pass of B.
